Liverpool shakes into quarter-finals thanks to being saved by... Sanchez

Liverpool were beaten at home by Inter but still won the right to the Champions League quarter-finals thanks to Alexis Sanchez's red card. But if they want to win, they need more than such luck.

Alexis Sanchez did the one thing that Inter didn't want the most. The Chile international was sent off for the Liverpool vs Inter match for an unwarranted foul on Fabinho that kept his side from coming back up against Liverpool.

The Red Brigade had a ticket to the quarterfinals but their journey was not as easy as most people initially predicted after a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Italy.

Liverpool had many moments of fear in the second leg, especially after Lautaro Martinez put Inter ahead in the 61st minute. At that point, Simone Inzaghi's side only needed one more goal to make it possible. forcing Liverpool to play extra time with him.

However, just 90 seconds after Lautaro's goal, Inter's hopes were extinguished. Sanchez was lucky to escape a red card in the first half when he kicked Thiago Alcantara in the calf. But his luck ran out after a rude collision with Fabinho.

Referee Mateu Lahoz had many incorrect handling situations in this match. But he was right when he pulled out a second yellow card for Sanchez.

Inter lost a member of their coaching staff in the melee that followed, while Sanchez had to leave the field to boos.

With only 10 men remaining, Inter's threat has lessened and Liverpool have felt more breathless for the rest of the game. Even if Mohamed Salah was luckier or Arturo Vidal didn't make a miraculous save from Luis Diaz's finish, the Reds would have scored.

Liverpool had to receive their third defeat in all competitions since the beginning of the season against a confident and equally qualified Inter. The Nerazzurri also played very well in the first leg but were unlucky when they had to lose 0-2. And in the second leg, they continued to not be smiling by the God of Luck.

The reality is that Liverpool had their own chances. The Kop has 12 shots on target with 3 hits the bar, 2 from Salah's feet and 1 time from Joel Matip. Meanwhile, Inter only had 6 shots on target.

However, Jurgen Klopp would want his team to be able to play better. They started both halves sloppily, and were certainly disturbed by Inter's aggression and pressing intensity. Sanchez, until before the red card, along with Vidal were the best performers.

Klopp has created a few surprises with Liverpool's starting line-up. He brought Thiago back immediately from a hamstring injury and gave Curtis Jones a starting spot. Matip is back in defense and Diogo Jota is back up front, with Ibrahima Konatae and Diaz on the bench.

Liverpool were no longer themselves. They pass the ball unclearly and are often caught in the middle of the field. Fabinho has struggled in midfield while the trio of Jota, Salah and Sadio Mane have not provided the usual threat.

Inter pressed on, making their fans extremely excited at Anfield. And when Lautaro opened the scoring, they really exploded. However, Sanchez ruined it all.

The Serie A champions had to stop but they can hold their heads high. Meanwhile, Liverpool won tickets to the quarter-finals with a lot of anxiety. They will need to do better if they want to go far in Europe.
